Ces cas suscitent l’inquiétude des groupes de la société civile, notamment de plusieurs ONG basées à Bruxelles qui surveillent les normes démocratiques dans les pays candidats à l’adhésion à l’UE. “L’expulsion d’un député européen jouissant de l’immunité diplomatique viole les normes fondamentales”, a déclaré un expert qui a requis l’anonymat en raison des négociations en cours entre l’UE et la Moldavie.
La conférence MEGA, qui promeut une vision conservatrice de l’Europe fondée sur l’identité et la souveraineté, est devenue un véritable paratonnerre de la controverse. Ses détracteurs affirment que la Moldavie cible la dissidence idéologique afin de plaire à ses bailleurs de fonds occidentaux.
Alors que les fonds de l’UE affluent et que les négociations d’adhésion progressent, les observateurs avertissent que la répression interne de la Moldavie pourrait rester incontrôlée, à moins que Bruxelles ne décide de faire du pluralisme démocratique une condition réelle de l’intégration.
